This is a petition to Oprah to give national exposure to the violations of the law and of constitutional rights perpetrated by the D.H.S. / C.P.S. Please click on the link and read some of the crap that they are getting away with. I remain threatened by CPS but one of my friends has undergone the ravages of this bizarre system here in Canada. The U.S. seems to be the same. This "alleged" system has no one in charge. It’s run by recent college grads (maybe not the cream of the crop!), who are short on life experience and often child-less people. They seem to take their cues from very shortsighted academia and a very simplistic list of on-the-job damning criteria to judge parents by. This list is not published, and their processes not open to public scrutiny like other legal systems. They lack discernment and when they err, they're beyond legal accountability so proceed to construct crimes to support their original decisions. Truth is no longer required and serious damage and suffering to child and family is less important than their paycheck and maintaining funding for their agency. NP~~~~~~~~~~ My brush with this terror has opened my eyes. I have learned much from parents who have had to tango with this tyranny and from friends that have been short term social workers (from U.S. & Canada) in this setup and others still employed in other capacities. I have heard of how the coding of a report determines the monetary draw for the agency...it pays to upgrade a report's urgency even though these people know that it is unfounded and they will not be providing any real services. It's a paper game and the best of parents can be sacrificed. NP~~~~~~~~~~ To the case in point, grandchildren were taken and held for months with an accusation that Grandma was an abuser because she was a survivor. This situation is so sick that the young grandmother can't yet speak about it, can't yet reconcile the nightmare. Oprah if you're listening put yourself in this spot. This turns a soul inside out and if the spirit could vomit, this would cause it to -- this grandmother did just that, for months on end. No charges were laid as none are required so no defense can be made. NP~~~~~~~~~ A very little girl taught not to undress except with grandma's ok, suddenly became an abuse victim when this agency put her in the hands of strange medical staff and she resisted. An accusation (all that is required) stood solely on the imagination of a young woman we assume has achieved a college degree. Even when the child's own doctor, the police and the townspeople stood in the grandmother's defense, this agency responded only by trying to construct wrongdoing by the grandmother. They interpreted any gesture she made (or did not make) to fit a scenario and added false comments into their records to maintain custody of the children. This woman's biggest crime was to call them for help when she was very concerned about a situation that would put her grandchildren in peril. Thank God she now is legal guardian but I offer up my prayers to heal this woman and her family. To be a victim sexually or otherwise is a life challenging experience but to be accused of being a perpetrator of such vileness is incomprehensible (certainly for the women I know and suspect for most of us). The vulnerability of our early assaults can make us incapable of fighting back. Something I sense you know of Ms. Winfrey, even if you did finally fight back. NP~~~~~~~~~~ But were there not people there to lend a hand? Please know that if you are: a survivor, or financially struggling, or North America is not your land of birth, or if any of your siblings or parents had issues / if you have an unbalanced vindictive ex-spouse or neighbor/ if you don't have a pit-bull lawyer/ if you're a single parent/ if your child has health or emotional problems or was born with a disability / if your child makes innocent but silly comments in public / if you have ever lost it and slapped your child even very rarely /if your children have sibling rivalry/ if your child is disliked or misunderstood by their teachers /if you the parent become emotionally or physically ill in any visible way / if you have a difficult divorce / if you are in bereavement due to loss of family members / if job loss is impending or job stress known..... .Sorry to have gone on but these are details that can cost you your children if for any reason you are in the sights of a CPS agency. I deal daily with most of the above. I have an ex who mainly wanted my children because it would mean an added income for him. I had to let them go part of the time which is heartbreak enough but I cannot show any weakness. To lose my children would be a death for me and I don't know how parents live through this. NP~~~~~~~~~~ There are real situations that need intervention. These require people with a real skill set and intelligent leadership. Some workers must have hearts but I'm not betting my children on it. These operations need to return to "not for profit, charitable organizations" that need not justify an existence by a high head count. The ultimate irony is the pain that is endured by the many innocents while these agencies publicly advertise the great numbers they've saved (using any report founded or not). NP~~~~~~~~~~~ About a decade ago, certain workers faced charges and loss of job for not recognizing real abuse. Today's answer is make everything abuse. The people helped may only be those in the industry. A further irony is that they only attack the vulnerable, those with legal means that show fight are left alone -even if abuse is happening. Ignorance is bliss in that once you go through this door, the small pleasures of every day life, the moments of peace and safety are taken away and it takes great healing, time and prayer to regain them. In a strange way it is like a doorway into a 3rd world country right here in unconscious North America. NP~~~~~~~~~ Oprah, please try to fit us suffering souls in amongst the grand and idle distractions of the blissfully ignorant. You have dared to take on the Beef industry, dared to show the darkness in Africa, to present many disturbing situations. You are a heroine to millions. Speak for change here, for us who have no voice and live in a fear that robs life from parent and child alike. Hope is all many of us live on.
I signed the petition - signature #1071 - and put the text for our next letter-writing campaign in as my comment...
Whatever the societal ill of the day happens to be – drugs, crime, teen pregnancy – whenever people discuss it, you’re sure to hear someone say that the decline of the traditional American family is to blame. But how can that be when today’s society has government agencies whose supposed missions are to aid and protect families and children? My question to you is this - are those agencies functioning as they were intended? And do the people employed by those agencies have the necessary training and expertise to accomplish their missions? I say no, on both counts.
In some aspects, yes, our social service system does function properly. But as it relates to our justice system, in many cases it does not function at all. For example, the very foundation of our judicial system is the presumption of innocence until guilt is proven. According to the Iowa Department of Human Services employee manual, that presumption holds true for their procedures as well. However, in the actual investigation of a child abuse allegation, there is no such presumption. Rather, the assumption is guilt, and all questioning is directed in that vein. A completely groundless allegation can easily result in a very serious investigation. And once investigators are focused on a possible culprit, their sights do not waiver, and they don’t bother to examine any evidence that might sway them from their original presumption of guilt. They churn out inflammatory reports full of hearsay presented as fact, and twist whatever facts they do bother to gather to fit their own purposes – namely, creating a crime where there is no evidence of one. And if something cannot be proven false, then it must be true – whether there is proof of that alleged "truth" or not.
Add to this the fact that social workers do not have the necessary training in child development to properly interview a young child and assess his behavior. Neither do they acknowledge that badgering a child (especially a very young child) with questions until they get the responses they want to substantiate a crime is NOT equivalent to uncovering the truth. In actuality, it has the potential of creating false memories for the child through the sheer repetition of ideas, essentially destroying any semblance of truth. All of this is done with the mission of protecting the child in mind. But who is going to protect the child, and ultimately the family, from social services? Consider the fact that social workers have immunity to civil law suits. And consider also the fact that they are the primary source of information by which our prosecutors and judges make decisions affecting the lives of children and the parents who love them. Where is the accountability, the checks and balances to prevent them from being judge, jury and executioner in these cases? They are glaringly absent, leaving too many innocent parents without the protection our Constitutional rights are there to provide.
Of course there are cases where intervention by an agency such as DHS is warranted. But there also seem to be many cases where children suffer horrible abuses without so much as a passing glance by these so-called protective agencies. And then there are the groundless allegations and biased investigations that can result in children being separated from one or both parents. Because of the growing popularity of their use in custody battles, false allegations of abuse are often referred to as the "nuclear weapon of custody warfare." That is a frightening manipulation of a social service system already fraught with serious problems. Perhaps the very agencies charged with protecting our children and offering support to our families are, in fact, accelerating their decay. In any case, it is definitely time for a closer scrutiny of the policies and procedures used by these agencies – not necessarily what’s printed in their employee manual, but what is actually being put into everyday practice. Because whether you choose to believe it or not, you too could become a target of this overworked, under-educated system with the power to take your children from you. It is time for a serious CHANGE.
...coming soon to a newspaper and every elected lawmaker near you
The DHS says that I cannot see J. at all until the case goes to court, wether that be juvenile, district or criminal I don't know. The "social worker" is "pretty positive" that "something inappropriate sexually" has happened to J. "Pretty positive" coming from a woman who, from what I can see, has little or no advanced education in child developmental psycology. Or any related psycology field. But in the meantime they will be conducting "therapy" sessions with J. They have no court order to do this but it seems to me that they don't need one. They are truly "above the law." There is no one keeping them honest. I am going to call the Governors office today and lodge a formal complaint. But I have a feeling that I will just run into more beauricratic BS and nothing will get done to help me or J. This is happening all over the country day after day and something needs to be done about it. I'm going to print up some flyers with this website and some relevant comments and pin them up EVERYWHERE I CAN. We need more exposure and I for one am going to do everything that I can. They have already taken away the most precious thing in my life so what have I got to lose. We need more voices and I am going to find them. This is America and there must be a way to make these people "play fair" and we need to find it. But first they must be exposed to the general public for what they really are. Held accountable for their mistakes and blatent transgressions of the law. What do you think would happen if you or I went in front of a judge with a bunch of hearsay, slander and lies??? We would be thrown out of court and probably thrown in jail. So what makes these people any different?? They work for the state??? So fkn what. WE PAY THEIR SALARY, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WE NEED TO SCREAM LOUDER AND TO MORE PEOPLE. Keep up the fight!!!
Hang in there! I have been denied visitation and although it isn't the same, I understand the emotional frustration. There is little accountability on the government side and this needs to change! IowaFathers.com is working on it with new legislation but it is a slow process. Hang in there, keep fighting, and eventually things will change!
just a quick note I'm in #1410 anything I can do and believe me the information relayed to me at Empowering Dads only confirms the 50 year old mentality of the dhs so let me repeat myself I'm in
