Regardless of your political view of what defines marriage, this article makes a valid point regarding how federal laws are acceptable when they conform to the controlling political parties agenda and ignored when they oppose same agenda.

"Political reasons have not the requisite certainty to afford juridical interpretation. They are different in different men. They are different in the same men at different times. And when a strict interpretation of the Constitution, according to the fixed rules which govern the interpretation of laws, is abandoned, and the theoretical opinions of individuals are allowed to control its meaning, we have no longer a Constitution; we are under a government of individual men, who for the time being have the power to declare what the Constitution is, according to their own views of that it ought to mean." Dred Scott v.Sanford, 19 How. 393, 620 (1857) (Curtis, J., dissenting).

Unfortunately, the same can be said of our state court system.  For example, the courts ignore parenting as a fundamental right, one protected by our U.S. Constitution (not to mention Iowa Constitution) and one that can only be infringed upon by showing a compelling state interest, yet they jump at and not only enforce, but modify child support obligations based upon federal law.  However, the later comes with a monetary incentive.

It will be coming eventually. Certain things have to come about to make it happen. It is a slow process. I know Bryan is like a lion in waiting for the perfect moment. We will probably get one chance to do it right.
